What Experts Are Saying
Praise for Sleep Dream Rise
Leah Ann Bolen’s Sleep Dream Rise is a truly exceptional work that meaningfully addresses key technical aspects of sleep and dream health without compromising what is deeply personal. She understands that sleeping and dreaming are thoroughly interdependent experiences that must be addressed in tandem and offers practical guidance for doing so. By openly sharing her personal journey around tapping into the power of the night, she also provides an essential measure of empathy and hope.
Your brain does not clock out when you fall asleep. It cleans up, processes emotions, strengthens memories, and occasionally delivers a terrific idea before breakfast. Sleep Dream Rise shows readers how to support that nightly work—and how to pay closer attention to the fascinating world of dreams. Leah Ann Bolen makes sleep science approachable, dreamwork personal, and bedtime something to welcome rather than dread. Consider this your invitation to stop fighting the night and discover what it may be trying to give.
What Leah Ann Bolen elucidates with warmth and clarity in Sleep Dream Rise is that when we develop a tortured relationship with the night, we lose not only sleep but also the benefits of our dreams. … There are lots of books about sleep and many interesting books about dreams, but rarely do we see these intimately related topics so artfully woven together.
This book is a reminder that rest is not a reward for getting everything done; it is how you return to yourself. Leah blends practical, science-backed guidance with a deeper invitation to reconnect with your natural rhythms, create meaningful rituals, and honor what your body has been asking for all along.

Sleep Dream Rise invites us to awaken to the magic of the one-third of our lives that we—hopefully—spend asleep. Sleep is not merely a necessity; it is a foundational pillar of physical, mental, and emotional health, yet too few of us get enough of it.
With a soothing voice, gentle humor, and quiet authority, Bolen inspires us to consider that sleep is not just “off time” but is a sacred opportunity for restoration and personal growth.
Weaving together the latest research, timeless wisdom, and accessible practices, she begins by offering practical ideas to help you get a good night’s rest, whatever your sleep challenges may be. She then turns to dreams—the stars of the nighttime sleep show—and offers simple but powerful ways for you to remember and explore them, learn from them, and use their insights to enrich your life.
Sleep Dream Rise is an illuminating and compassionate guide for anyone seeking deeper rest, richer dreams, and a more awakened life. Highly recommended!
Leah’s book pulled me in early as she described what happened in her life that made her place greater importance on her sleep and dream life: namely, the burnout from sacrificing her sleep for work and how it actually hurt her corporate career in the long run. It’s a story I’ve heard many times from people in a similar position. They think that sleep is a luxury, and they fall back on the cultural trope that the “real go-getters” can apply force of will to turn sleep time into more productive time. But it’s such a fallacy because, first of all, sleep is a time of great productivity and renewal of body, mind, and spirit, and second of all, missing sleep accumulates a debt that must eventually be paid. Leah’s story is bravely put forward as Exhibit A for why good sleep is a treasure to accumulate, not to waste. And her book is a road map for reclaiming what is rightfully yours.
I see it all the time at the large online community for dream sharing that I moderate: the people who come looking for help because their sleep life is so out of whack. It makes their dreams surreal and feel antagonistic, as if something is hunting them. What they usually don’t realize is the thing hunting them is the need for quality sleep. Sleep deprivation is a bill that will only stay unpaid for so long, and when it comes due it is uncompromising. People don’t realize how serious sleep deprivation is. As Leah points out in her book, the accumulated medical evidence doesn’t equivocate over what losing sleep does to a person in the long run. For the people who think that cutting into their sleep time is helping them, think again.
But after laying out the case for the importance of good sleep and what that really means, Leah also shows us the tremendous benefits of honoring this part of our lives: the creativity, inner connection, health, and vitality that result. She’s wise to point out that it’s not just about how much sleep you get but also the quality of it, and that making rituals around sleeping and dreaming can be so rewarding. Her book does a tremendous public service by bringing together the science with her personal experience to make the case for reclaiming the power of your nights.
Leah offers practical, empowering strategies for better sleep, from everyday sleep habits to navigating insomnia. As a brain retraining specialist, I love her emphasis on mindset, small, sustainable changes, and approaching dreams with curiosity. A warm, conversational, and refreshingly holistic guide to understanding the powerful role sleep plays in our lives.
Leah perfectly blends the science of sleep with a focus on the whole person. I love that she includes rituals to support the spirit rather than focusing only on the biological aspects of sleep. I thought I knew a lot about sleep and dreams, but Leah expanded my thinking. An excellent read for anyone looking to better understand their nocturnal life.
